Veronica, a ten years old girl from Kissi, went shopping in the dark in August 2003 and fell in a rainwater channel; both legs were injured. The right leg swelled and inflamed. Out of financial problems the parents missed an intensive treatment of the leg. When Vero was brought to Baobab on her mother’s back in February 2004, we only could hear from a doctor in the hospital that the leg had to be amputated. Through a campaign in Germany Baobab made it possible that Vero could be operated in Germany. Professor Stark succeeded with his team at the University Clinic in Freiburg to save the leg. Several people helped crucially:
Prof. Dr. Stark, Prof. Dr. Muhadjer, Prof. Dr. Brandes, the Black Forest Clinic in Bad Krotzingen, Gabi Obi, Verena Walter, Sabine Willers, Saalam Abeka and many others. All those helping hands deserve our great thanks!

February 2005 - Veronica dancing again!
Veronica dancing again! After Veronica, in August 2004 in Ghana arrived, we sent them back to school and she was an enthusiastic Trommlerin in the Baobab Culture Troupe. And since February 2005, they danced enthusiastically received by the dancers.

When Vero came back to Ghana in August 2004, we sent her back to school and she started being an enthusiastic drummer in the Baobab Culture Troupe. And since February 2005 she also started to dance. The only problem Vero has to live with is a shorter right leg, as her operated leg is not growing like the left leg. But a higher shoe is balancing this difference and so she is able to walk, to run and to live a normal life. She will never forget the saviors of her leg and will always be grateful to them.

March 2016

In the meantime Veronica has graduated from Senior High School and is doing for one year her Service at our shop in Cape Coast.
Her dream is to study at Polytech Secretarial Work and Management.
